Ghost Rider #1-4 (2006): Vicious Cycle

Ghost Rider gets a new volume and it’s written by Daniel Way-…Wait! Don’t leave yet! It’s written by Daniel Way but it’s not terrible! It’s not great, either. But not terrible.

The first arc introduces the premise. We find Johnny Blaze where we left him, in Hell, doomed every day to race to the open gates of Hell, only to have them close before he can get out.

He makes a deal with a small demon who helps him escape, but when he’s out he learns that the small demon was actually Satan himself–disguised–who tricked Blaze in order to also gain freedom from the Hell dimension.

Once on Earth, Lucifer’s body shattered into 666 parts, each of which reanimated a dead person under Lucifer’s control. Ghost Rider’s mission on Earth is to free each of those corpses, but each time he does the remaining ones under Satan’s control get stronger.

Doctor Strange guest stars across two issues. He tries to help Ghost Rider but Ghost Rider assumes it is just another Devil’s trick and and fights Strange, nearly killing him. He uses the Penance Stare. And yes, that power has never been used by the Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider–which means he’s got a touch of the Ketch in him.

Or something. Not exactly sure what yet.

X-Factor #8-9 (2006): Civil War

These issues bear the “Civil War” cover but it’s really just two more issues of X-Factor.  And there’s nothing wrong with that.  There are so many reasons to love this…
