Berkeley’s Crooked Flower’s fifth album is crisp and sunny, like ’70s psych without the crunch. It’s consistently enjoyable and at moments it’s absolutely entrancing. Worth your time to check it out.
Joji’s “Ballads 1” album can also put you into a trance, but it’s a different kind. The album’s unchanging, mumbling-and-trudging pace is the definition of slow burn. And I don’t mean that in a negative way. There’s something captivating going on here, and it’s really hard to put a finger on.
