FIRST FLOWER by MOLLY BURCH

“Why do I care what you think? You’re not my father…” That’s the first words you hear on this cowboy torchsong album where the only thing more interesting than the lyrics is Molly Burch’s sultry voice. Thing Cowboy Junkies with Johnny Cash’s boom-chicka beat. Or Billie Holiday fronting a slow-moving indie band. Elegant. Romantic. And smart.

On “To The Boys,” the obvious single, she croons, “I don’t need to scream to get my point across. I don’t need to yell to know that I’m the boss.” Indeed.

I hung on every sung word of this record.

Great stuff.
