THOR ANNUAL #2 (1967)

Aaaah, annuals.  They don’t really do them any more, but they used to be big hairy deals in the comic industry—a way to get paid twice for the same story, since most contained at least some reprinted pages, and a way to introduce new readers to a character with oversized, overpriced issue.

In this one, Loki reanimates the Destroyer armor and it basically serves as a terminator-style robot, ripping through Asgard and getting into lots of fights.  It’s a big action issue, mostly just a battle, but it’s pretty good.

Also, I think it’s the first time a bunch of characters who usually appear in the “Tales of Asgard” backup stories make it into the main tale.  Specifically, The Warriors Three.

Creators: Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Grade: C+.  Slightly above average.
