MARVEL KNIGHTS PUNISHER #19 (2003)

This is another done-in-one, but it ties to Garth Ennis’ prior work with this character. It starts with Punisher wounded and being taken in by a woman from his past.

This character lived in the same tenement as Castle in the Welcome Back Frank story. She’s left New York and in this issue she helps nurse Punisher back to health.  It’s a great story, a great run.  Punisher has depth based on the people around him, not in and of himself.

She has feelings for him.

The story takes the “one note” element of the Punisher character and gives it depth by showing the effects of his one-person war on those he protects, and on his own soul.
