Peter Parker, the Spectacular Spider-Man #101-102 (1985)

Al Milgrom leaves the book in the hands of two substitute creators.  Peter David will come aboard soon and write the Hell out of this book, but these two fill-ins are…Meh.  They do exactly what fill-ins are supposed to do:  Keep the seat without changing the table.  We get a Blacklash fight.  Having Blacklash versus Spider-Man is odd—a villain whose sole power is tensile reach against a guy who has been mastering tensile skills for decades.

Killer Shrike is the villain in #102, and he’s also just not a terribly interesting guy.

Excellent cover, though.

Creators: Cary Burkett and Juan Alacantara/Larry Lieber
