IRON MAN #1 (1968)

Iron Man gets his own book, and it’s pretty good.  Jasper Sitwell gets a leading role as the goofy (borderline stereotypically gay) SHEILD agent who is overseeing Stark Industries.  Whitney Frost, who later becomes Madame Masque, is the ingenue.

This first issue is mostly a retelling of his origin, and an introduction (or reintroduction) to some side characters and foils like Jasper, A.I.M., the Maggia, etc.

It’s pretty good.  And it’s nice to see someone other than Roy Thomas or Stan Lee writing something.

Creators: Archie Goodwin and Gene Colan
