Marvel Comics Presents #49-50 (1990): Solo Stories Starring Daredevil, Gladiator, Captain Ultra and Silver Surfer

Another post collecting multiple short stories from this anthology series.

First of all, don’t get too excited.  Issue #49 has 8-page stories about Daredevil and Gladiator, but it’s not the Gladiator from Daredevil’s book, a.k.a. Melvin Potter, it’s the Shi’ar dude who is basically Superman.  It would have been really cool—and innovative—to have two short stories that are tied together in the same issue, but this comic doesn’t seem to be about innovation.  It seems to be about volume—throw as much stuff as possible out there and hope some of it separates people from their money.

In the Daredevil story, he fights a guy who uses two aluminum souvenir-sized bats as weapons.

Then Gladiator fights a space monster.

Issue #50 also has two short stories.  The first stars Captain Ultra, who…I don’t remember ever reading about before.  Anyway, it’s his last appearance.  Doc Samson is treating him and in the end he’s cured of pyrophobia.  The story is crammed full of celebrity guest appearances, as well as Doctor Octopus, and I’m not going to bother to name them all because it’s so very, very stupid.  It’s supposed to be funny.  But it’s stupid.

Then, Silver Surfer has a has a generic space adventure.
