This book is heading towards cancellation, and we’re getting a lot of fill-in artists. The quality is also declining—Peter Gillis is a solid writer, especially about the kind of occult/oddities that traditionally occupy this team, but there are so many plotlines going on at once that it’s hard to keep track. It’s a little like Chris Claremont’s X-Men, only Claremont always made sure the reader knew everything that was going on, which led to much “wordier” comics, but at least they made sense.
This issue is a slapstick murder mystery, with Son of Satan and Patsy “Hellcat” Walker making guest appearances, along with a character who looks like Groucho Marx. The weirdness level is through the roof on this one.
