LIONHEART by H.C. McENTIRE

I listened to Lionheart twice before I made a decision to give it a full review. It’s so understated, so subtle, that it needed to grow on me a bit. And once I decided to review it, that’s when I discovered it’s lesbian country. Lesbian country! That doesn’t come along too often!

But don’t underestimate Heather McEntire as a novelty. Lionheart is a rich, complex, wonderfully written and beautifully performed collection of songs that sticks to country traditions and folk roots, while simultaneously moving into wider, more open and genreless spaces. No, there’s no question it’s country–but there’s also no question that it’s not like most country being produced nowadays. Or ever.

Highly recommended!
