I really like Roger Stern’s all-too-short run on Ghost Rider. The stories aren’t all that different: Johnny Blaze has all kinds of jealousy and infighting at the carnival he works at, and gets involved with girls and doesn’t, while GR burns mean or nasty people and rides around a lot playing chicken with bigger vehicles—but it’s written so much better. And Bob Budiansky is a terrific artist for this book.
Stern’s GR is much meaner than the past ones, and Johnny Blaze is unable to control him. There’s also a lot more character work with the supporting cast at the carnival, which will get quite interesting over the next several issues.
