DR. STRANGE #46 (1981)

Clea and the Doc go on vacation, and the Eye of Amagatto sets off TSA’s metal detectors.  The better part of this issue is the very quick backup feature by Roger Stern and Michael Golden, who will soon take the book over.  Stern is one of the few authors who is able to write Strange with any kind of depth and complexity, and Golden is perhaps the most underrated artist of the 1980s.

The story is simple: Instead of being on vacation at a beach, Strange and Clea spend some leisure time in another dimension, just enjoying each other’s company.  Great character work.

Creators: Bill Kunkel (plot), Dave Michelinie (script), Kerry Gamill (pencils); Stern and Golden (backup feature)
Grade: Main story: C-.  Backup story: B
