I’m the first one to admit that my knowledge of reggae doesn’t go much farther than the soundtrack to The Harder They Come and Babylon by Bus. It’s not a kind of music that generally moves me. Maybe because I don’t smoke pot anymore.
But Kwamevi’s EP hit me in the right place. it’s got the reggae backbeat, but it has a modern R&B feel. Or maybe it’s that it has more of a world beat feel? I dunno. I just like it.
