If Kurt Vile was a woman, he’d probably sound like Courtney Barnett. And vice-versa.
They’ve both got the slow, don’t-give-a-shit vibe. They both write abstract songs that feel like something Velvet Underground might make if they were born two decades later. And they both love music, as evidenced by the single to their collaborative collection of original songs…
And that’s one of the reasons to recommend this album: Two indie singer/songwriters get together, but they don’t record a collection of covers. Instead, they write new songs–together–that match their collective sensibility.
Well, that’s not entirely true. They remake an old Vile song. They cover “Fear is a Forest” by Barnett’s wife, Jen Cloher. But they also write new stuff for the album.
Good stuff. Check it out.
