CRUEL SUMMER by Bananarama (1983)

Bananarama_-_Cruel_SummerTHE GREATEST OF ALL TUNES (G.O.A.T.) is a salute to the greatest songs of all time, one song per artist. Want more? Go to the G.O.A.T. Page for all the GOATs so far!

Okay, today it’s time for a  “silly” song.  “Cruel Summer” fell on deaf ears when it was released, but when it was featured in The Karate Kid it catapulted into the top 10 and put the British girl band on the map.

The song is pure fluff, but the hook is catchy as Hell.  Other than that, there’s really not a lot to say about it.  Other than that I love it.

Further listening: The band has no other songs that could possibly qualify as G.O.A.T., but they do have some nice little ditties like “Robert Dinero’s Waiting (Talking Italian)” and a cover of “Venus.”

Covers: All DIYs this time, but some are pretty nifty…And Tupac.
