THE GREATEST OF ALL TUNES (G.O.A.T.) is a salute to the greatest songs of all time. One song per artist, with suggested further listening and covers!

Okay, if I’m going to include a traditional tune here with no known author, why not include Row Row Row Your Boat as well?  Because this song is actually good.  And there have been many versions that are some of the Greatest Of All Tunes.

Usually for a GOAT post I offer a few other great songs by the artist, and then cover versions.  But since this is a traditional, I’m going to offer the history of my favorite versions of the tune—starting with the earliest one I could find…
From 1965, Peter Paul and Mary…

Then a few years later, it’s The Dubliners

And the first monster hit version, the genre busting Thin Lizzy (1972)…

Then, in 1990, The Dubliners returned…with The Pogues!

And I can’t forget the Grateful Dead’s 1993 version…

And I’m ending with my absolute favorite: Metallica (1998) (Grammy winner!)

Actually, I can’t resist the Simple Minds version…
