Most people know that Chris Claremont as the force behind turning the X-Men from team that couldn’t sell comics into a powerhouse franchise that at one time made up 30% of Marvel’s entire product line. But did you also know that he, along with artist Herb Trimpe, created Captain Britain?
The character first appeared in a black-and-white magazine, Captain Britain Weekly #1, which had an October 1976 cover date.
His powers came from the magic of Merlin and, of course, he was based in England. Alan Moore would later grow the character’s mythology extensively.
