WEEKENDS ARE FOR SINGLES: All Hip Hop Edition! (but I snuck in some classic rock)

[box type=”shadow”]A regular feature: Single songs and covers I’ve heard lately, usually submitted to me, that you need to get your ears on.  Pronto![/box]
Today, some great rap singles of recent months…And we’ll start with new MF DOOM, one of my top ten rappers and the man whose mask I’m wearing in the masthead for this site. He just dropped another Adult Swim single, with Ghostface.

I love Aloe Blacc’s voice, so it was great to hear him on this new Owl City cut.

Big Boi is preparing for his return to hip hop. Andre 3000 gets all the love, but Boi’s lyrics for Outkast were just as good—and his solo work is impressive. The new single features A$AP Rocky. He’s not offering an embed code, but you can follow this link to the Soundcloud page.

Led Zeppelin! Cleopatra Records has released several really good tribute albums over the past few years, and 2015 is “Dazed and Confused: A Stoned Out Salute to Led Zeppelin.” I wish they offered a single or two on Soundcloud, but since they don’t I’ll throw this freestyle up, from Yelawolf…

I know nothing about Casey Vegetables, other than that this is a damn fine single…

A new Murs rap on Zeds Dead’s new single…Murs is one of those guys who always gets my ear-time–he’s constantly evolving. This time, it’s dance music.

I usually don’t like Wale or Rick Ross, but this banger is hot. And adding a side of Lupe never, ever hurts.

And last but not least, Michael Jackson may not be pure hip hop, but this acappella tribute (a 25-song medley) was too good not to post…
