INTRODUCING THE NEXT BERKELEY PLACE “PANEL A DAY” FEATURE: IRON MAN!

I’ve been thinking of reading Iron Man for this blog for quite some time.  Unfortunately, I have some of the back issues of the comic reprinted in a Masterworks volume and they’re…Kinda bad.  No, really bad.  And boring.

So I haven’t been interested in reading every issue or even, as I am doing with Hulk, a look at the character’s “evolution.”

But, when you get to #116, a guy named David Michelinie signs on to the book and makes it, for the very first time, worth reading.  Nay, he made it a “must read.”  And when John Romita, Jr., and Bob Layton came along next issue to help with art and plotting, the book became invincible.

So, that’s where our little journey will start: Iron Man #116.

I don’t have the preceding issues, but I actually own a dog eared paper copy of #116.  It starts in the middle of an arc: Tony Stark is getting it on with Whitney “Madame Masque” Frost, he’s trapped in a room being battered by the Ani Men, and he puts on his armor…

And lets it be known he is Iron Man…

So we’re off to a fresh start.
