LOLA AND THE KICKSTARTS-The Handmade Tale of Lola King and the Kickstarts

If you long for a smarter Lily Allen or a younger Chrissie Hynde, this might just be for you.

Lola and the Kickstarts: Crisp lyrics and vocals that seem as matter-of-fact as the great pop bands of the late 1980s/early 1990s (think The Smiths, Squeeze, etc.), tight riffs and hooks, there’s nothing here not to like. Especially with lines like “I left my heart in England, that’s where I found love, but that’s where I lost it too”–but I swear she said “whore” not “heart.”

Recommended cuts: This is Not a Love Song, The Great Divide, I Left My Heart in England.
