In Daredevil #188, Frank Miller pulls a huge retcon: Daredevil’s powers were not created by the radiation. Rather, getting hit by a truck and exposure to toxic material was simply a catalyst, enabling him to unlock the powers that all ninjas have.
I don’t think anything was ever done with this later–I don’t even know if it’s still canon. For sure, Mark Waid’s current Daredevil run has made a lot of references to the powers being radiation-induced.
Another fascinating part of this issue: Charles Bronson and Marlon Brando’s Godfather character make appearances as crime bosses working for Kingpin. I’m not sure who the guy in the pink tie is supposed to be–anyone of you have any ideas?
Much of Frank Miller’s Daredevil was inspired by Miller’s having been mugged in New York City. It made him dark and cynical. I suspect that’s why he relates to Charles “Death Wish” Bronson.
Oh, and one more thing: Josie’s window gets broken again, but this time DD himself is thrown through it.
