LOST IN THE TREES- Time Taunts Me

Theres nothing quite like a full string section to make music creepier. Add to that an all treble, disembodied and androgynous vocal track, and song titles like Lost in the Snow and Time Taunts Me and youve got the soundtrack to the sequel to Edward Scissorhands. Part Danny Elfman, part Sia, Lost in the Trees is the name used by Ari (The B-sides; The Never) Picker on the Trekky Records EP, Time Taunts Me, which, while not quite brilliant, is only short by a few feet. With heavy classical influences, Mr. Picker mixes haunting lyrical compositions with beautiful instrumental tracks to make one of the most original works I’ve heard this year. Why isnt it brilliant? Well, for one thing, its too short. For another, the mood of the album doesnt change enough throughout. But these are minor quibbles. This is something you want to put on at night, while youre coming down in the arms of someone you love, while you stare up at the sky through your dorm-room window. Great stuff.
